About Me

Charlotte Evans is an award-winning writer, director and editor whose work blends documentary intimacy with cinematic craft. Known for her performance-driven approach and emotionally intelligent storytelling, she creates films that feel both visually sophisticated and deeply human, whether working across documentary, narrative, commercials or music videos. Charlotte began her career in London, training under acclaimed editor Rick Waller before relocating to New Zealand in 2009. Over the next sixteen years she built an award-winning career as an editor before moving into directing, developing a distinctive filmmaking style shaped by an editor's instinct for story, rhythm and performance. Her directing work spans campaigns for global brands including Adidas, AIA, the NSW Government and Tourism New Zealand, alongside award-winning music videos for artists including Kimbra, Aldous Harding, BENEE and DMA'S. Her work has been recognised with multiple awards, including Best Director and Best Editor at the CLIPPED Music Video Awards, while her short documentary Give Kate A Voice received a Webby Honoree and Silver at the New Zealand Cinematography Awards. In 2022, Charlotte directed OK Chlöe, an intimate portrait of New Zealand politician Chlöe Swarbrick, which premiered as a New Yorker Original Documentary, screened internationally, and was later featured by Short of the Week. Her documentary Nowhere To Be premiered at Vivid Sydney in 2023, further establishing her reputation for observational filmmaking that explores identity, connection and the complexities of contemporary life. Charlotte is currently completing her debut feature documentary, Being Chlöe, a ten-year observational portrait of Chlöe Swarbrick's political and personal journey. Alongside her documentary work, she is developing an original slate of scripted projects including the comedy series OK Sharon and short film The Snitch. Now based in Sydney, Charlotte works internationally and is represented by MOFA (Australia), Flying Fish (New Zealand), Tiny Giant (USA) and Scenester Films (UK).
